I'd like to start this week by thanking those of you that came along to support me at The Sands Venue in Gainsborough on Thursday night. I had a wonderful time and received some fantastic comments from audience members after the show. Also big thanks to those of you that tuned in to view the gig online and for your comments left variously on my website and Facebook. We had people from as far afield as New Jersey! And happy birthday to Lesley who was celebrating her 59th birthday that evening. Good to have you with us and glad you enjoyed the show. If you didn't manage to catch the show then fear not because in a few days time you'll be able to play it again from The Sands Venue website. I might take a look myself - it's not an ego thing, it's purely research! While I'm doing the thank yous, I'd also like to mention Luisa at The Sands Venue who made it possible to broadcast the event live, and Dan who was controlling sound on the night.
The performance was split into two halves with the first half dedicated to the music of the Great American Songbook and included works from writers such as Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, George and Ira Gershwin, and Hoagy Carmichael - as many as I could fit into one 45 minute spot! For the second set I chose songs from some of the great piano vocalists that have inspired me over the years, including Nat King Cole (my all time favourite!), Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Billy Joel, picking things up as the night progressed until we were rocking and rolling with some Jerry Lee Lewis. The event was recorded for posterity so if you did tune in wherever you were when you were watching, that's where you'll be on the recording! We'll be releasing some of the best tracks in the not too distant future and also some footage of the event. Stay tuned for that.On Sunday I returned to The Sands Venue to play the lunchtime spot and will be there again in two weeks time on the 31st of August. Coming up this week I'm taking the band down to London to play at a friend's weddings on Friday night then on Saturday (23rd August) I'm hot footing it back to Manchester to perform at Choice Bar and Restaurant.
Take care and bye for now,
Scott Bramley
